Lake MjörnLake Mjörn is the largest lake in "Gothenburg Great Lakes Area" and is a part of the River Säveån Watershed. The lake is worth a visit all year round. The lake is amazingly varied, with gentle bays, open lake areas suitable for sailing and motorboating, friendly swimming places and popular small inland marinas. The bird- and wildlife in the lake area is rich, and the lake is very popular for sports fishing, since it houses a wide number of attractive fish species. The lake area is 55km2 and Lake Mjörn is therefore one of the largest lakes of West Sweden. It houses around 60 islands of varying size, such as Sunnerö, Bokö and Torstö islands. Risö island is perhaps the most famous since it actually is one of the very few independent (for fun..) republics of Sweden - "Republiken Risön". Ask in the tourist information for additional information. Click the image above for larger map! Map of lake Mjörn with the largest islands marked, Sunnerö, Bokö, Torstö and Risön. |
